Pick Smartlead if you run an agency or a high-volume email program and want unlimited mailboxes, unlimited contact storage from $174 a month and white-label client workspaces in one account. Pick lemlist if LinkedIn, calls, SMS or WhatsApp belong in your sequences, or if personalized images matter to you. For one team sending about 50,000 emails a month, lemlist's Email plan is the cheaper option.

What each tool is

Smartlead

Smartlead is a cold email platform built for high volume across many mailboxes. Its core is mailbox rotation, warmup and a unified Master Inbox. It has added a lead finder (SmartProspect), a dialer (SmartDialer), AI agents (SmartAgents) and email infrastructure (SmartSenders and SmartServers).

Agencies are its core audience. Client workspaces, white label and API access across client accounts are built for people sending on behalf of others.

lemlist

lemlist is a multichannel sales engagement platform. It says you can "reach leads via email, LinkedIn, calls, WhatsApp, and SMS," and it pairs that with a lead database, an email and phone finder, lemwarm and a Deliverability Hub.

lemlist says "20,000+ other sales teams run their entire outbound in lemlist." It is best known for personalization, including custom images, and for running LinkedIn and email side by side.

Pricing compared (as of October 2026)

Smartlead plans

Plan Monthly Annual (per month) Emails/month Contacts Verified prospect emails/month
Base $39 $32.50 6,000 2,000 2,000 (with $59 add-on)
Pro $94 $78.30 90,000 30,000 30,000 (with $59 add-on)
Unlimited Smart $174 $144.50 150,000 Unlimited 50,000 included
Unlimited Prime $379 $314.60 500,000 Unlimited 170,000 included

Smartlead's pricing page says all plans include unlimited email accounts at no extra cost. Annual billing saves 17%. Contact limits on Base and Pro are total storage, not a monthly allowance.

Add-ons matter here. Client workspaces with white label are $29 each per month from Pro, dedicated SmartServers are $39 per server per month, and SmartDelivery placement testing starts at $49 a month. Base has no API, webhooks or CRM access.

lemlist plans

Plan Monthly Yearly (per month) Volume Senders
Email $69 $55 50,000 emails/month Unlimited users and senders listed
Multichannel $109 per user $87 per user Unlimited emails and messages 5 per user
Enterprise Custom Custom Unlimited 5 or more per user

The Email plan includes the lead database, email and phone finder, AI agents, warmup, the Deliverability Hub, CRM integrations and API access. Multichannel adds LinkedIn automation, SMS, a built-in dialer and a WhatsApp add-on. Extra enrichment is $20 a month ($16 yearly) for 2,000 credits.

lemlist's page is unclear in two spots. The Email plan card lists unlimited users while the FAQ says "pricing is based on the number of users," and the help center says Email plan cost scales with monthly volume. Get a quote if you will send more than 50,000 emails a month.

What it costs at real volumes

Sample setups at list price, monthly billing, no add-ons unless noted.

Scenario Smartlead lemlist Cheaper
Founder, 5,000 emails/month $39 (Base) $69 (Email) Smartlead
One team, 50,000 emails/month $94 (Pro) $69 (Email) lemlist
150,000 emails/month across 30 inboxes $174 (Unlimited Smart) Email price above 50,000 not published; 6 Multichannel users is $654 Smartlead
Agency with 10 white-label clients $384 (Pro plus 10 workspaces) No published agency plan Smartlead
3 reps running LinkedIn plus email Plan price plus a separate LinkedIn tool $327 (3 Multichannel users) lemlist (simplest)

The takeaway: lemlist's Email plan is a good deal for one team around 50,000 emails a month. Above that, or once you manage clients, Smartlead's volume pricing pulls ahead. Plug in your own numbers with our cold email cost calculator.

Features compared

Sending, mailboxes and rotation

Smartlead rotates sends across all connected mailboxes in a campaign and matches providers automatically at send time (Gmail to Gmail, Outlook to Outlook), per its help center. In September 2026 it added Mailbox Auto-Replace, which detects burning mailboxes and swaps in warmed replacements.

One caution: Smartlead's Fair Use Policy still lists mailbox caps (100, 300 and 800) under older plan names that no longer match the current lineup. If you plan to connect hundreds of inboxes, get your limit confirmed in writing.

lemlist's Email plan lists unlimited senders but a published volume of 50,000 emails. On Multichannel, each user gets five senders, so many inboxes means many seats.

Multichannel

lemlist wins this one. A single lemlist sequence can mix email, LinkedIn actions, calls and SMS, with WhatsApp as an add-on. If your playbook is "view profile, connect on LinkedIn, then email," lemlist runs it in one place.

Smartlead does not send on LinkedIn natively. It integrates with LinkedIn tools such as HeyReach and Aimfox, which means a second subscription. It did add calling inside sequences in July 2026 through SmartDialer, which is credit-based from $9 a month.

Personalization

lemlist's image editor lets you place variables like {{firstName}} or {{companyName}} on a custom image in an email step and save it as a template. That is a distinctive feature for account-based outreach.

Smartlead focuses on text: variables, spintax, AI-written lines and A/B tests with up to 10 variants per split. Both support AI-assisted copy.

Unified inbox and follow-ups

Smartlead's Master Inbox supports tags, assignments and comments, with iOS and Android apps. Subsequences can trigger on reply category, keywords, no reply or bounce, per its help center.

lemlist also has a unified inbox and handles replies across channels, which is useful when a prospect answers on LinkedIn instead of email.

Warmup and deliverability

Both include warmup. Smartlead uses tiered warmup pools by plan, with Unlimited Smart and Prime eligible for its Ultra Premium pool. It sells placement testing (SmartDelivery) and dedicated servers as add-ons.

lemlist includes lemwarm Essential with its paid plans and says "lemwarm and built-in deliverability protections are included in all plans." Its help center recommends OAuth connections and 3 to 5 weeks of warmup before scaling.

Neither publishes independent placement data. Your domains, authentication, list quality and volume per inbox decide most of your results. Our cold email infrastructure guide explains the setup.

Lead data

lemlist lists a 650M+ lead database (600M+ in another section of the site), an email and phone finder, and an enrichment add-on drawing on 25+ providers. Its credits roll over while your subscription is active.

Smartlead's SmartProspect lists 300M+ verified business profiles. It is included on Unlimited Smart and Prime, or $59 a month on Base and Pro. G2 reviewers mention lead database quality as a con, so many Smartlead users bring lists from a dedicated data tool like Apollo.

Agencies and white label

This is Smartlead's home turf. Client workspaces with white label are $29 each per month from Pro, Unlimited Prime includes three, and clients can view reports and reply from the inbox. lemlist's pricing page lists no agency or white-label plan, though Enterprise adds custom roles and permissions.

Pros and cons

Smartlead

Pros - Unlimited mailboxes on every plan - Unlimited contact storage from $174 - White-label client workspaces at $29 each - Subsequences and a full-featured Master Inbox

Cons - No native LinkedIn, SMS or WhatsApp - Learning curve, a common G2 complaint - Base lacks API, webhooks and CRM - Fair Use Policy mailbox caps need clarifying

lemlist

Pros - Email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS and WhatsApp in one sequence - Personalized images built in - lemwarm included with paid plans - Larger database by its own figures

Cons - Multichannel is per user, five senders each - Published Email volume stops at 50,000 a month - No published white-label plan - Some pricing terms unclear on its own page

Other options worth a look

Instantly is the other big volume sender, with unlimited inboxes priced per workspace; see our Instantly vs lemlist comparison. PlusVibe is often cheaper than both between 25,000 and 150,000 emails a month. For a wider list, read our roundup of lemlist alternatives.

Can you use Smartlead and lemlist together?

Some teams split the work by channel. lemlist handles smaller, high-touch campaigns where LinkedIn steps and personalized images matter, and Smartlead runs the high-volume email across many inboxes and client workspaces.

That only pays off if both jobs are big enough to justify two subscriptions. Keep separate lead lists or a shared block list so nobody gets the same pitch from both tools. For most small teams, one platform is simpler.

Switching from one to the other

Moving between Smartlead and lemlist is mostly manual, so budget a few weeks.

  1. Export your leads. Download contact lists and campaign results as CSV files before you cancel.
  2. Rebuild sequences by hand. Steps, variables and variants do not transfer, and lemlist's LinkedIn steps have no native equivalent in Smartlead.
  3. Reconnect and warm mailboxes. Connect inboxes to the new tool and let warmup run before full volume. Warmup history does not come with you.
  4. Recheck authentication. Confirm SPF, DKIM, DMARC and any custom tracking domain on the new platform.
  5. Run both briefly. Let live campaigns finish on the old tool while new ones launch on the new one.

Rather not run it yourself?

Picking the tool is the easy part; domains, warmup, lists, copy and replies take the time. If you would rather hand that off, book a 30-minute call with David at Koldify, the done-for-you cold email agency where he is a partner.
